Travel Day

Rebecca got on a shuttle from Idaho Falls at 2:30am and made it here.  I stayed with Jon Kotter (what a great man).  We talked until about 11:00pm and I had a hard time getting to sleep.  Perhaps I shouldn't have checked my messages before going to bed.  I got a message from the athletic department asking me to say the prayer for the final home football game of the year.  Doug Padilla is being honored for his contribution to BYU over the years (NCAA champion, 2-time Olympian, and now retired for working at BYU).  Since I've worked so much with Doug over the years, I got involved with this event.  That had me a little worried as I tried to get to sleep.  I woke up a lot and finally at 5:15 went for a run.  It was dark the whole time and I was so careful about remembering where I should go and how to return.  Jon told me how to get to Sugarhouse Park where the state meet it that Morgan and Kate just ran.
Morgan and Kate after the state meet in Sugarhouse Park after they finished.  That's the park I tried to find this morning.  If you missed how they did.  Here are their races and interview after Kate won.

Some of you know me well enough to know that this was a risky attempt for me to go on a run and not get lost.  I never found the park.  I'm not sure I even went the right direction as in North or South.  However, I remembered the turns I took and felt comfortable about finding my way back.  I learned that in Salt Lake City, remembering turns by thoughts like "Turn left at the church on the corner" does not work very well since nearly every corner has a church on it.  I ended up doing really well until I got past the McDonalds with half a mile to go.  That half mile turned into a mile and a half.  I missed the right turn after McDonalds thinking it was further along the road.  It all worked out though.  I got to Jon's in time.  He fed me Frosted Flakes!  I also have banana bread from Grandma Rogers, bagels, an apple, and other things.

I met Rebecca at the airport and everything has gone smoothly.  We are now sitting at the gate 1 1/2 hours before our flight to Denver takes off.  From Denver, we'll go straight to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Nagoya.  I'll add more later on.

We made it to Nagoya.  Now, we have a bus ride to Ibigawa to meet our families and go to bed.  We both slept quite a bit.  Rebecca keeps offering me Altoids.  I'm not sure if she's just nice or is hinting about my breath.

A little later after remembering that she got up at 1:50am to get going for the day.
